EQUINE PHOTOGRAPHY
Wild at heart.
Deeply connected.
Completely yours.
I photograph horses the way I photograph wildlife—with an eye for the fleeting moments, the unexpected expressions, and the personality that makes each horse who they are.
Why Choose
JRubacha Photography?
🐴 Horses are photographed as individuals
Every horse has a personality, quirks and a story. I want to capture the horse you know—not simply another pretty portrait.
📷 A photographer's eye for the unexpected
I watch for the fleeting expressions, gestures and moments that reveal your horse's personality.
🎨 Photographs created as artwork
From dramatic black-background portraits to beautiful outdoor images, every photograph is carefully crafted as a piece of art.
❤️ The connection matters
Your relationship with your horse is part of their story. When appropriate, we'll capture the connection between you, too.
Fine Art Equine Portraits
Every Horse Has A Story
Horses become part of our lives in ways that are difficult to explain to someone who hasn't experienced it. They're our partners, our teachers, our escape, our challenge—and sometimes our greatest source of comfort.
Julie believes the best equine photographs go beyond capturing a beautiful horse. They capture the personality, the quirks, the quiet moments and the connection that make that horse yours.
Whether it's the look in their eye, the way they nudge your shoulder, a playful expression or the quiet moment between you after a ride, those fleeting pieces of your relationship are worth remembering.
Because someday, the photograph may be more than a beautiful portrait. It may be a piece of your story.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
You choose the location! Sessions can take place at your own barn, farm, or another location that has meaning to you and your horse. We can also meet at a beautiful nature trail or other outdoor location that provides the setting you're looking for.
I’ll work with you to choose a location that fits your horse, your vision, and the kind of images you want to create.
-
You don't need a studio! My signature black-background equine portraits are created using the natural light found in the doorway of a large barn, building, or garage. The deep shadows inside create the dramatic black background while beautiful natural light falls across your horse.
From there, I use careful editing to create the finished fine art portrait.
The result is a dramatic, timeless image that looks like it belongs on the wall of an art gallery.
-
Absolutely. Your relationship with your horse is an important part of their story, and some of the most meaningful images come from the connection between the two of you.
We can create beautiful portraits together, as well as photographs that simply capture the little interactions and moments that happen naturally between you.
-
That's okay—and honestly, that's part of the fun.
I don't expect your horse to stand perfectly still and pose for an entire session. I watch, wait, and work with their personality rather than against it. Some of my favorite images happen in the moments between the "perfect" ones.
Your horse doesn't have to be perfect. They just have to be themselves.
-
Yes! Whether you have one horse or several, we can design the session around your herd. We'll make sure each horse gets individual portraits while also capturing the relationships and interactions that make your group special.
-
Absolutely. Movement is one of the best ways to capture a horse's personality and spirit. Depending on your goals and location, we can incorporate everything from running and playing to riding and working with a lunge line.
-
Wear something that feels like you—and fits the story you want to tell. Whether that's jeans and boots at the barn, riding clothes, or something a little more polished, we'll choose clothing that complements both you and your horse without distracting from the connection between you. Just remember to wear close-toed shoes for safety.
-
Florida weather has a mind of its own! If the weather isn't going to give us the conditions we need, we'll work together to reschedule your outdoor session for a better day.
For black-background fine art portraits, weather is often less of a concern because they can be created in the doorway of a covered barn or building.
-
Not at all.
Equine sessions can include dramatic fine art portraits, beautiful outdoor images, portraits with you and your horse, and candid moments that capture their personality. We can create a session that's entirely fine art, entirely outdoors, or a combination of both.
